The Groundwater hydrology research group in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering of the University of Padova consists of outstanding researchers and academics recognized at both national and international levels for their leading expertise in all aspects of the discipline. These aspects include not only typical research topics in civil and environmental engineering, such as numerical modeling of groundwater flow and contaminant transport at multiple scales (from small plots to regional aquifers), coupled modeling of surface and subsurface flow and transport at the catchment scale, and seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers, but also novel methods and interdisciplinary issues such as data assimilation for improving model predictions by integrating observation data directly into numerical models, modeling of soil water – vegetation interactions in the root zone, and soil moisture drought risk assessment. The broad expertise in numerical modeling is complemented by significant experience in physical scale models, developed and built in our state-of-the-art Laboratory of Hydraulics and Hydraulic Constructions.
